Great Skiing Is Only a Short Drive Away!

Here in Kiowa and Elizabeth, we see a lot of cold weather. With cold weather, snow is sure to follow. The snow and close proximity to the Rockies make this an ideal area for skiing. Whether you want to take a day or week, there are many resorts and skiing locations only a short drive away.

One of the closest areas for skiing is Echo Mountain Resort. They are located just on the other side of Denver and only a few hours away. Until 2015, the resort was used for race training, now it’s open for public enjoyment. Lessons are available for kids and adults, so the whole family can enjoy their time and perfect those skiing skills. They offer training for kids under 6 years of age, as well as other special requests, as long as you call and make arrangements in advance. They also have season passes available, so you can ski all winter long.

If you like to watch, or compete, at winter sports, Eldora is your place. They host several competitions which are posted to their website. They keep their site up to date with local weather and current events as well, so you can check before heading out, and know when you’ll have great powder for your runs. Along with lessons for all ages, they also accommodate groups and have lodging for a longer stay. There’s even a First Timer’s Guide to help you get the most out of your visit.

Arapahoe Basin has a rich history, and is currently working to expand with more land and new runs. This resort boasts almost 2,000 acres with varying levels of difficulty. They often host events and weddings, as well as moonlight dinners. One thing which makes Arapahoe special is The Beach, an enhanced parking area with picnic tables for every 2 parking spots. Located next to 3 different lifts, The Beach has 15 spots open for reservations, making this a great place to host a birthday party or family reunion.

If you don’t want to drive all the way up the mountains, Winter Park is a great place to go. Leave the car behind as Amtrak takes you from Denver right up the mountain. However, rides are only on certain days and periods of time. Just like many of our local resorts, you can also host a group event or wedding here. They work to keep you informed of any weather changed which might interfere with your fun day of skiing.

There are many more skiing locals for those of us in Colorado, these are just some of the closest. For a more insightful information, check out Snowpak’s review of these four resorts as well as a few others. Winter sports can be a fun way to get out of the house and have fun with the family during these colder months. Take some time to see the sights, and enjoy the great skiing and snowboarding we’re known for!
